Zingy Spring Teas

Zingy Spring Teas

As the garden springs back to life don't forget weeds are not just for the compost, chooks or pet rabbits.  Your own dandelions* can be dried in your Ultimate Dehydrator root, stem, leaves and flower and made into a tea.  Dandelion leaf tea has been traditionally used as a digestive tonic.

Dandelion Leaf Tea
Harvest unblemished leaves.  Wash and dry thoroughly.
Place onto Clean-a-Screen and then onto your Ultimate Dehydrator.  Set to Herbs Setting and dry for approx. 6 hours or until thoroughly dried.
Raspberry leaf is a good companion to dandelion and it balances the bitterness somewhat.
Once dried store in Fowlers No.14 bottle with ring, lid and clip.

To make tea simmer water, do not boil (as this heightens bitterness) add crushed leaves to teapot, add hot water, add raspberry leaves if desired and allow to steep for 5-10 minutes.

* beware of those grown in polluted environments or on council reserves where pesticides may be used.
